Dan. 4:26
Barrack Obama recently won a second term, and at least half the country is not happy about that. Many believe he is purposely trying to destroy our economy and constitutional government. Many are fearful of what he may do in his second term. Many also claim he won the second term by corruption and voter fraud, which I personally believe as well. But it does not matter how he won because the Bible tells us it is God who places rulers where he wants them. The heavens do rule and God is sovereign. However he won the election, he won because God Almighty wanted him to win a second term. Daniel says about God,
And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings (Dan. 2:21).
If Obama and his advisers are bent on destroying this nation, then that is what God has decreed for this nation because we, as a nation, deserve it for our sins and ingratitude to God for all His blessings. However, for the believer it is important to keep in mind that God is sovereign, and He does as He will. He ultimately sets up kings and rulers to fulfill His purposes, even though it may not appear like it initially.
In Daniel’s time the great Nebuchadnezzar, king of ancient Babylon had a dream of a statue of a man that represented the major gentile kingdoms in the Age of the Gentiles. These kingdoms were ultimately destroyed by a rock not made with human hands. That “rock” was the kingdom of God.
The gentile kingdoms may try to destroy the kingdom of God, but they will never succeed. In fact, God has made it clear in His Word that he is allowing them to come against the kingdom of God to show them just that – that they can never succeed against the kingdom of God, no matter how hard they try.
In the end of this age, many kingdoms of the world will unite together against the kingdom of God and Israel and try to totally wipe out Christianity and the Jews. God claims responsibility for this just so he can show off His power and prove once and for all that nothing can thwart His will. That is not to say that some individual Christians and Jews will not die, but they will never totally wipe out the church or Israel.
“And you, son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, 'Thus says the Lord God: "Behold, I am against you, O Gog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal; and I will turn you around and lead you on, bringing you up from the far north, and bring you against the mountains of Israel. Then I will knock the bow out of your left hand, and cause the arrows to fall out of your right hand. You shall fall upon the mountains of Israel, you and all your troops and the peoples who are with you; I will give you to birds of prey of every sort and to the beasts of the field to be devoured. You shall fall on the open field; for I have spoken," says the Lord God. “And I will send fire on Magog and on those who live in security in the coastlands. Then they shall know that I am the Lord”’” (Ezek. 39:1-6).
Notice God implies through Ezekiel that He is the one who will bring Gog and the other nations against Israel to wipe them out in the eyes of everyone. Gog is usually taken to be Russia and other nations aligned with them. This is not difficult to imagine at all today as Russia is supporting such enemies of Israel as Iran and Syria. Also, our military keeps discovering Russian subs closer and closer to our coasts after they have already been there for a while – a very ominous sign!
This war of Gog also has a spiritual application of the nations coming against the church to try to wipe it out. This too is not hard to envision today with the U.N. passing many resolutions and rules that are contrary to the Bible, the church, and Christians. Not only has the U.N. passed laws against the Bible, but Obama has as well – even while publically claiming to be a Christian. This is ultimately God’s plan and not the conspiracies of people and nations although they certainly exist. I know that conspiracies helped to get Obama reelected. It was quite obvious that the mainstream media had conspired together to help him. But God says through Isaiah,
“Do not call conspiracy everything that these people call conspiracy; do not fear what they fear, and do not dread it. The Lord Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, He is the one you are to fear, He is the one you are to dread and he will be a sanctuary” (Isaiah 8:12-13).
Why shouldn’t we call it a conspiracy when it is so obvious that there are many conspiracies behind the scenes working to promote their agenda that is against God’s kingdom? Because God is sovereign and the heavens rule. He is the one pulling the strings behind the curtain setting one ruler up and putting another down for His purposes. If all we see are men scheming to get their own way, we are not seeing a big enough picture of a big enough God. If we don’t see the bigger picture, we will end up fearing men instead of fearing God Almighty. This is what Isaiah is warning about. God says through the Psalmist,
Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him;
do not fret because of him who prospers in his way,
Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.
Cease from anger, and forsake wrath;
Do not fret – it only causes harm.
For evildoers shall be cut off;
But those who wait on the Lord,
They shall inherit the earth.
(Ps. 37:7-9).
We will continue to see and experience conspiracies of wicked men who want to take over the world for their own selfish purposes. It will even look like they might succeed before it all falls apart for them. But the Bible promises these people will be condemned, and those who wait upon the Lord and trust in Him will be the ones who will inherit the earth. So there is no reason to get upset about all that is about to happen. As the above implies, it only leads to harm.
Paul says in the book of Romans,
“For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God”
(Romans 13:1).
This is a difficult verse for those to accept who are upset over the recent election. But God said it in His Word; therefore, it was God who chose Obama to have a second term. When Nebuchadnezzar had his dream, he believed he was ruler by his own wisdom and might; but Daniel had to straighten him out and show him God was sovereign,
“And inasmuch as they gave the command to leave the stump and roots of the tree, your kingdom shall be assured to you, after you come to know that Heaven rules” (Dan. 4:26).
Unfortunately for most rulers, they will never come to know heaven rules until they die, and it is too late to humble themselves like the Great and mighty Nebuchadnezzar, king of one of the greatest kingdoms of all time. He said after being humbled,
“I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me; and I blessed the Most High and praised and honored Him who lives forever:
For His dominion is an everlasting dominion,
And His kingdom is from generation to generation.
All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing;
He does according to His will in the army of heaven
And among the inhabitants of the earth.
No one can restrain His hand
Or say to Him, ‘What have You done?’”
(Dan. 4:34-35).
Heaven rules!
