Then the fifth angel sounded: And I saw a star fallen from heaven to the earth. To him was given the key to the bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit, and smoke arose out of the pit like the smoke of a great furnace. So the sun and the air were darkened because of the smoke of the pit. Then out of the smoke locusts came upon the earth. And to them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power (Rev. 9:1-3).
This passage mentions a star that fell from heaven to earth. They did not know about meteors and meteorites in John’s day. They would have just called it a falling star. So the first part certainly fits. As for the subsequent verses that I quoted, they have either not begun to come to pass yet; or we don’t know about it yet. If someone said this could not be the fifth trumpet because he doesn’t see any signs of the subsequent verses, he would only be revealing his lack of knowledge of history and the Scriptures. For example, when the greatly anticipated Messiah of the Jews came the first time, most of their Bible experts and leaders not only missed it but actually accused Him of being controlled by demons. Prophecy is often difficult to detect, even after it is fulfilled. God’s people often miss the fulfillment, even when it is in front of them, because of their preconceived ideas of how they think it should be fulfilled. If this is the fifth trumpet, how many Christians are totally unaware of the fulfillment of the first four trumpets?
Furthermore, you may not be aware that when these trumpets initially blast, they all keep on blowing and getting louder and louder. This is shown in the type at Mt. Sinai.
And when the blast of the trumpet sounded long and became louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by voice (Ex. 19:19).
In other words, they intensify their effects over time. That means that not all of the signs will be fulfilled at the initial blasts of the trumpets. When the trumpets of Revelation blast, they will get louder and louder as well; thus, the initial blast effect may not look much like what it will eventually become.
For example, let’s say the first trumpet blast was the first explosion of a nuclear bomb as some believe. (Nuclear bombs can cause the signs that go with that trumpet.) With all the countries developing nuclear bombs, we can now see that trumpet is sounding louder and louder (especially with all the talk about nuclear weapons). At some point, it will get louder with actual explosions of many more nukes in war as well as more powerful nukes than the original bomb that was exploded at Los Alamos, New Mexico. All seven of the trumpets of Revelation will continue to get louder and stronger until the end. After all, these are warnings to get the people of the earth to repent. God is trying to wake people up.
Regarding the other reason I mentioned, we may not know about the subsequent verses coming to pass because we cannot see it yet. It seems (to me at least) that the fifth trumpet is releasing a hoard of destructive demons from the abyss who have been kept locked up until this time. Could we actually see these demons with the natural eye even if it was coming to pass? No. We may however, in time see the effects of this new hoard of demons. Furthermore, to say not all the signs of a trumpet are fulfilled assumes the rashly arrogant position that we actually understand all the nuances of the strange, symbolic and apocryphal language of the book of Revelation and that it has to be fulfilled according to our great and inerrant understanding. Nevertheless, please understand I am not saying that this meteorite is the fifth trumpet; I am only asking if it could be. Time will tell. Let’s continue with the evidence.
One thing that strikes me about this meteorite is that it was described as a “blast.” That happens to be what trumpets do. In fact, the blast was 30 times stronger than the atom bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima. Trumpets also make sound, and this “falling star” broke the sound barrier, which broke the glass out of houses and buildings for an area of 750 sq. miles. So we are dealing with an incredibly loud sound and blast from a falling star. Could that possibly be the fulfillment of an apocalyptic trumpet blast? Maybe the only thing more obvious would be to see a giant angel in the sky blowing a giant trumpet. Do you still want to be quick to write this off as not being the fifth trumpet? Let’s continue.
And they had as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, but in Greek he has the name Apollyon (Rev. 9:11).
So this trumpet is announcing the arrival of a major fallen angel who has extremely destructive powers and who apparently has charge of destructive demons kept locked in the abyss until the end-times. In fact, the Hebrew Abaddon and Greek Apollyon mean “destruction” and “destroyer.”
Many people who study Bible prophecy believe Russia is “Gog,” which will bring great destruction to the world in the end-times. Russia is known as the “bear,” and a bear is part of the end-time beast of Revelation 13. Russia’s President Putin has been building up Russia’s military might and nukes. It is not difficult to imagine them causing a lot of destruction in the end. So for all the places for this Abaddon to land (if it is the fifth trumpet), how appropriate for it to land in “Gog.”
Now let’s talk about the timing of this landing. Do you recall when the former president of Russia, Medvedev, was visiting Obama and a mic was accidently left on? He wanted to talk to Obama about reducing our nukes (while they are building up theirs). The whole country heard Obama’s answer, “After the election I will have more flexibility.” After the election he would not have to worry about another election again; thus, he would not have to care what the American people thought. So apparently Obama is willing to give into Russia’s request to reduce our defenses. That is very kind of Mr. Obama. What are friends for anyway? This meteorite landed less than a month after His second inauguration! This would be a good time for the arrival of the great prince of destruction, Apollyon, in the bear. The U. S. is Russia’s greatest deterrent against nuclear war. Now they have more “flexibility” over our nukes. It is as if Apollyon was waiting for this very thing before his grand entrance.
Also on Feb. 12, just hours before President Obama’s State of the Union address, Russian nuclear bomber planes invaded Guam air space, where we have Anderson Air Force Base, and were circling around the island. The two Russian Tu-95 Bear-H strategic bombers were equipped with nuclear warheads on their cruise missiles. Our Air Force had to scramble fighter jets to run them off. This was a very brazen and provocative move on Russia’s part, especially since they purposely did it two hours before the State of the Union address.
Why would they do such a thing? These provocations are nothing new since Obama took office, as you know if you have been keeping track. They have been emboldened since then. They are just making use of that newly found “flexibility.” They were also doing it to send a message that in case war broke out between Japan and China, they would be on China’s side. Obama had formerly said we would side with Japan in that event. They were clearly sending a provocative message.
With their new partner in “flexibility,” clearly the timing has never been riper for Abaddon to unlock the abyss, flex his strength, and take direct charge of the military of the “bear.” Assuming this was Adaddon’s grand entrance, he arrived with a big bang and destruction. He will go out with a much bigger bang and the greatest destruction we have ever seen.
Note: When I finished this article, I saw a headline in the Drudge Report that read, “Putin Call for Upgrade of Russian Army.”
