But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith; but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was (2 Tim. 3:1-9).
I have often heard some of this passage quoted in reference to the world concerning the times in which we are living. While there is no question the average American has grown more ungrateful over the years, Paul was clearly speaking of attitudes inside of the church. This is proven by verse 5a, “having a form of godliness but denying its power.” The world does not have a “form of godliness.”
Of all the nations on the earth, America should be the most grateful people on the planet. This is evidenced by the fact that so many illegal aliens from other nations are flooding across our borders, risking life and limb to come to this has-been Promised Land. Apparently, they don’t realize the downhill spiral the U.S is in. Nor do they have a clue about the sacrifices of many Christians in covenant with God that caused this nation to be great and prosperous. They don’t realize that their very coming here is part of God’s judgment on this nation to help destroy it. Ironically, when the final judgments of Deuteronomy 28 are implemented on this once great nation, many immigrants will want to escape to go back to their own nations but will not be able to get away quick enough to avoid dying in the coming destructions.
One winter shortly after the Pilgrims arrived in the New World, they almost starved to death. Their rations were reduced to five kernels of corn a day! During a more prosperous time, when governor Bradford got remarried (his first wife fell overboard from the Mayflower), a man named Altham wrote home about the huge feast they had. In the book The Light and the Gloy by Peter Marshall and David Manuel (a wonderful book), it says,
What Altham neglected to mention was the first course that was served: on an empty plate in front of each person were five kernels of corn . . . least anyone should forget.
These Pilgrims were a mere handful of Light-bearers, on the edge of a vast and dark continent. But the Light of Jesus Christ was penetrating further into the heart of America. William Bradford would write with remarkable discernment, “As one small candle may light a thousand, so the light kindled here has shone unto many, yea in some sort to our whole nation . . . . We have noted these things so that you might see their worth and not negligently lose what your fathers have obtained with so much hardship.” (p.144)
I wonder this Thanksgiving how many people offered to God even one prayer of thankfulness before they pigged out on the bounty still available in this nation for a while longer. As for me and my house, on each of the large plates, I put a small plate with five kernels of corn that we ate first—lest we forget the trials and hardships godly people went through—and the covenants now long forgotten they made with God—that caused His blessings to rest on this nation—blessings that are now being stripped away.
When a nation becomes ungrateful and turns away from God, one of the judgments God brings against it is for the alien to rise higher and the rest to become lower. This in turn weakens the nation and hastens its destruction.
The alien who is among you shall rise higher and higher above you, and you shall come down lower and lower. He shall lend to you, but you shall not lend to him; he shall be the head, and you shall be the tail. Moreover all these curses shall come upon you and pursue and overtake you, until you are destroyed, because you did not obey the voice of the Lord your God, to keep His commandments and His statutes which He commanded you. And they shall be upon you for a sign and a wonder, and on your descendants forever (Deut. 28:43-46).
When a nation becomes ungrateful, God appoints an alien to oppress them; and He opens up their borders so more and more aliens flood in. They become oppressed by the aliens to whom they have to pay tribute. This is happening in the U.S. through paying higher taxes to support illegal aliens who are a burden to all of the health and welfare institutions. We could call this form of alien oppression a wooden yoke. With the wooden yoke the people can still remain in their land and carry on business, it is just more difficult and less profitable for many. I personally know several American tradesmen who have lost their jobs due to competition with aliens, who are taking over more and more of the trades. It is also reported by many news sites that terrorists, who want to harm our nation, are freely coming over the border as well.
A nation whom you have not known shall eat the fruit of your land and the produce of your labor, and you shall be only oppressed and crushed continually (Deut. 28:33).
If a nation continues to be ungrateful as most Americans are, eventually they will get an iron yoke. An iron yoke is apparently when a foreign nation or nations attack in war to totally conquer the ungrateful nation until it is destroyed and many taken captive.
Because you did not serve the Lord your God with joy and gladness of heart, for the abundance of everything, therefore you shall serve your enemies, whom the Lord will send against you, in hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in need of everything; and He will put a yoke of iron on your neck until He has destroyed you (Deut. 28:47-48).
With Obama passing the immigration Executive Order, he is implementing the wooden yoke in full force. When the grace period for that runs out and it fails to bring repentance to the nation, the iron yoke will be implemented. Moses continues his warning to an ungrateful nation:
The Lord will bring a nation against you from afar, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies, a nation whose language you will not understand, a nation of fierce countenance, which does not respect the elderly nor show favor to the young. And they shall eat the increase of your livestock and the produce of your land, until you are destroyed; they shall not leave you grain or new wine or oil, or the increase of your cattle or the offspring of your flocks, until they have destroyed you. They shall besiege you at all your gates until your high and fortified walls, in which you trust, come down throughout all your land; and they shall besiege you at all your gates throughout all your land which the Lord your God has given you (Deut. 28:49-52).
In the case with the U.S., the iron yoke will be war with Russia and China along with a coalition of other nations.
Prophets are often called to act out prophetic messages in some way in their own lives. Jeremiah prophetically acted out the wooden and iron yokes in his judgments against Judah. He wore a wooden yoke and told the people that they were to submit to the King of Babylon. But a false prophet named Hananiah broke the wooden yoke from Jeremiah and exhorted the people not to submit to it.
Then Hananiah the prophet took the yoke off the prophet Jeremiah's neck and broke it. And Hananiah spoke in the presence of all the people, saying, “Thus says the Lord: 'Even so I will break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from the neck of all nations within the space of two full years.’” And the prophet Jeremiah went his way. Now the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, after Hananiah the prophet had broken the yoke from the neck of the prophet Jeremiah, saying, “Go and tell Hananiah, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord: “You have broken the yokes of wood, but you have made in their place yokes of iron” (Jer. 28:10-13).
When the people refused to believe the real prophet Jeremiah and rebelled against the King of Babylon, God gave them over to be totally conquered by Nebuchanezzar with many deported to Babylon. Jeremiah continues:
“‘For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: “I have put a yoke of iron on the neck of all these nations, that they may serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and they shall serve him. I have given him the beasts of the field also.”’” Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, "Hear now, Hananiah, the Lord has not sent you, but you make this people trust in a lie. Therefore thus says the Lord: 'Behold, I will cast you from the face of the earth. This year you shall die, because you have taught rebellion against the Lord.’” So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month (Jer. 28:14-17).
What is so frightening is that I know—and you probably do as well—that this ungrateful nation will not repent even after Obama has forced on us the wooden yoke. Then it will be just a matter of time before the iron yoke will be installed. Ironically, once that is in force, even those who were used to create the wooden yoke will be forced to come under the iron yoke of cruel nations. After all, many of the illegal aliens are very ungrateful too and think America owes them for some reason.
Recently, I had to take my jeep in to get another rear end put in it. They got a used one out of a salvage yard and installed it. However, when they went to put in my drive shaft, it would not fit. After doing some research, they found out the differential they installed was a heavy-duty one; and the mechanic explained to me that the “yoke” would not fit. The iron “yoke” on it was bigger than my old yoke! Sometimes, prophetic lessons cost me a lot of money.
Jesus said,
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (Matt. 11:28-30).
As a nation, we have corporately cast off the yoke of Jesus for a wooden yoke of oppression now and an iron yoke of destruction later. It looks like the turkey is not the only thing getting roasted this year, but the eagle is as well. Happy Thanksgiving, America!
